Passwords are an important means of confirming the identity of registered users who log on to the Mina Search, the NDL Search or other library services. The use of weak passwords increases the risk of identity theft.
To protect your identity and prevent unauthorized third parties from accessing your account, the NDL requests that you take the following precautions when setting passwords.

(1) Please be sure to use a highly secure, complex password.

Protect your account against spoofing and other unauthorized access by using a complex password that is difficult to guess.
Please see How to Change Your Password below for specific instructions.
Your password must be between 8 and 20 characters long and comprise halfwidth alphanumeric characters or symbols, as shown below.

• uppercase letters A-Z
• lowercase letters a-z
• numbers 0-9
• the symbols !#&\@?-=*+

Please avoid the following

• Don’t use the same password on multiple services.
• Don’t include words like “password” or “pass” in your password, even if some letters are capitalized or the a is changed to @.
• Don’t use keyboard sequences such as “qwert” or “1q2w3e”.
• Don’t use dictionary words, names of people or places, or words with a number or a symbol as a prefix or suffix, such as "apple" or "Tokyo2020".
• Don’t use a password that includes all or part of your user ID.

(2) Please register an e-mail address, so that you can recover a forgotten password.

If you forget your password and have not registered an e-mail address, you will not be able to reset your password yourself.
Registering an e-mail address will enable you to reset your password via the NDL Search.

(3) Please double check the URL before entering your password.

To avoid phishing scams, make sure that the URL of the website you are logging on to ends with “ndl.go.jp”.

How to Change Your Password

1. Click the Login icon in the upper right corner of the Mina Search top page.
2. Enter your user ID and password in the login dialog.
3. After logging in, click the My Account icon in the upper right corner of the page to display the My Account and Settings page. Then, click the Review or Update User Information button.
4. To change your password, click the Change button displayed on the right of the password line.
5. Enter your current password and below that enter your new password twice.
6. Click the Update button at the bottom of the page.

How to Register Your e-mail Address

1. Click the Login icon in the upper right corner of the Mina Search top page.
2. Enter your user ID and password in the Login dialog.
3. After logging in, click the My Account icon in the upper right corner of the page to display the My Account and Settings page. Then, click the Review or Update User Information button.
4. Click the Change button displayed on the right of the email address line.
5. Enter your new e-mail address in the New Email Address field and click the Update button at the bottom of the page.
6. A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you entered. Click on the URL in the body of the email to confirm your new email address.
